Skillshare: Zine-Making with Mel Valentine

Join ISG for our second skillshare of the semester, hosted by our very own VP, Mel Vargas! Mel will be teaching us all about zine making, they have made many awesome zines in the past and have a lot of helpful things to share. Bring your favorite pens, pencils, paper, (or whatever you like to work with) and a positive attitude ready to learn!
Figure Drawing Session: A Collaboration with the Animation Association!

Join us for a session of fun figure drawing! Do you need help mastering those loose gestures? Capturing movement? Or maybe some extra practice with shading, form, and anatomy? Whether youre an animator, illustrator, or fine arts major - figure drawing is an ESSENTIAL skill you should never stop honing in your tool kit! This Friday, March 1st from 3pm-5pm, join us on the eighth floor of the 623 Wabash building in ROOM 805. We’ll be alternating between short poses, long poses, and clothing for some fabric fun! Just don’t forget to bring your art supplies!

Praxis Opening Reception

From the first idea to the cusp of completion, the artist sketchbook reveals the messy, chaotic, unfinished, and typically secret aspects of an artist’s creative practice. PRAXIS: A Sketchbook Show presents a collection of sketchbooks bringing to light the process of 23 makers.

ISG is putting on our very own artist convention... and it's almost here!
Art Harvest is a small farmer's market-like festival to celebrate fall, the beginning of another school year, and the art & craft of our students. We're inviting makers from ALL majors and clubs to come join us! This event will take place in HAUS (where our normal ISG meetings take place). We'll be open to the public on Friday the 16th from 11am-6pm and 11am-5pm on Saturday the 17th.
Strathmore Paper Presentation

Join ISG and special guest Jaclyn Mednicov, Artist Educator for Strathmore Artist Papers, for The Essentials of Paper, a 90-minute hands-on presentation on Strathmore Drawing and Watercolor Papers. We will participate in some drawing exercises, using a selection of papers and materials. The goal of the presentation is to provide information to help you select the right papers for your medium and techniques.
Strathmore has also been generous enough to provide FREE samples of some of their products for all who attend!

Columbia's Open Houses offer prospective students and their families a fun-filled day with lectures, activities, workshops, and one-on-one discussions with both students and teachers! ISG will be hosting figure drawing, zine-making, and character design workshops.

Join us for a weekend of student work, stunning art, and meaningful social engagement on Columbia's campus! ISG will have our Art Harvest Preview set up on Friday, where a few makers have been curated to display their works in the lobby of 623. Don't miss the chance to check out their work, but then come back the next morning for Cutthroat Illustration! Based on Food Network's Cutthroat Kitchen, watch people show off their illustration skills while battling out their classmates in front of a live audience! Buy devious sabotages, create speedy illustrations, and fight to win the grand prize - new art supplies!

We have a giant box of sidewalk chalk left over from an event last semester, and we are bringing it out this Saturday for an outdoor sketch up! Join us in front of the 618 Michigan Ave. building to enjoy some fresh air with friends, and help us make the sidewalk a little more fun!
The forecast calls for clear skies so far, if that changes then the party will be postponed.
Skillshare: Sticker Printing Basics

How do you turn a simple sketch into a sticker you can sell? From scanning and editing your image, to setting up your file to the 9th floor Digital Print Center, we’ll walk you through the process! There are a lot of great resources in the design building and we want you to be able to use them all. You could even sell what you make at our annual Halloween Pop-up Fundraiser coming up in October!
New Student Greet + Design Tour

The Greet & Design tour will be focusing specifically on what you can make on each floor of 623 S. Wabash, tools you can check out (like Wacom Cintiqs and laptops with the whole Adobe Suite!), and where you can make your own prints and stickers. Floors and areas that will be covered include: the Workroom on the 1st floor, Printmaking Studio on the 2nd floor, Resource Room, Materials Lab, and Media Center on the 4th floor, open workspaces and lockers on the 8th floor, Digital Print Center and Computer Lab on the 9th floor, and the Fabrication Facility on the 10th floor.
The tour will start on the first floor and we will work our way up, we will meet together in Haus at 5 and get started!

Sulzer Library Comic Fest

Celebrate local comic book creators at our second annual Sulzer Library Comic Fest! Chat with creators, browse contemporary comics and zines, sign up for workshops, and attend panels where we talk comics, art careers and more. As always, the two day event is free to the public!
ISG was honored to sell our work at this beautiful library, and even got the chance to participate in a panel focused on the struggles and triumphs of life as an artist.
CAKE (Chicago Comics and Art Expo)

Columbia College Chicago invites you to our annual showcase on Friday, May 10, to celebrate the student work that only our students can create. At Manifest, you'll encounter thought-provoking gallery exhibitions, live performances, fashion shows, original game design, literary readings and more--all curated by the talent that defines our campus.
During Manifest, ISG worked at a free portrait-drawing booth in addition to hosting a brand-new event, Mystery Murals, in which two teams of vibrant illustrators faced off in a live mural-making competition. The winners were awarded art supplies from our sponsor, Blick!
Zipcodes: An Illustration Showcase

Illustration Annual Release

Join the Illustration student group & Illustration CCC for our Annual release gallery. The show will have copies of the annual publication available for viewing & for pre-order. All proceeds from orders will go towards benefiting ISG Fundraising.
The release show will highlight student works featured in our first Annual Publication.
The IC3 Annual is a student run publication featuring over 150 dynamic works by Columbia College's finest Illustration students. Curated and published by ISG.

Not on Paper

Not On Paper, an exhibition hosted by the Hokin Project Gallery, showcases Columbia College of Chicago’s illustration department as directed by three faculty curators: Chris Arnold, Ivan Brunetti and Chris Eliopoulos. Working with a select group of senior students and recent alumni who demonstrate a wide range of talent using various mediums resulting in a very personal and modern definition of illustration and its expression through art, narrative and design.
Not On Paper comprises a core of 19 artists and illustrators’ producing large scale, singular projects and collaborations that display the breadth and diversity of their practice through a collection of site specific creation. Work will present a range of media disciplines from mural, animation, design, painting and installation while featuring a diversity in perspective, concept and execution.
